「生きがい」という言葉は日本独特の意味を持っており、様々な概念を包括している。本論文の目的は、国内外の「生きがい」研究で報告された定義や関連要因を含めた研究成果を整理し、新しく「生きがい」の定義を概念規定し、今後の課題と研究の方向を考える際の資料とすることである。これまでに発表された文献を概観し「生きがい」を次のように新しく定義した。「生きがい」とは、「あなたの『生きがい』は何か」と尋ねられた時に、思い浮かべる「(「生きがい」の)対象」と、これと同時に湧いてくる「(「生きがい」の対象に)伴う感情」を統合した心の働きである。「対象」には過去の経験、現在の出来事、未来のイメージが含まれ、「伴う感情」には自己実現と意欲、生活充実感、生きる意欲、存在感、主動感といった種々の感情が含まれる。今後の研究の展開の中で「生きがい」を測定できる簡便な尺度や定型化された質問が完成すれば、医療・保健・福祉・老年学領域だけでなく日本文化を探る独創的な研究が可能となってくるであろうし、国内外の地域による違いも検討できるようになる可能性がある。また「生きがい」は個人の生き方の指針ともなりうるので心理学・教育学・哲学など学際的な研究課題といえる。 |

This paper reviws evidence concerning the relationship of IKIGAI and Well-being in the elderly people. The word “IKIGAI” has a meaning peculiar to Japan，and includes various concepts. The word “IKIGAI” from Japanese translates into English，it would be similar to self-actualization，meaning of life，purpose in life. The purpose of this paper is considering as the data at the time of arranging the result including the definition reported by “IKIGAI” research and the related factor. We would be specify a definition of “IKIGAI” newly，and considering a future subject and the direction of research. The reference reported until now was surveyed and “IKIGAI” was defined newly as follows “IKIGAI” is work of the mind which unified an “object” and “the feeling by which it is accompanied”，when person inquired as“What is your IKIGAI ? ”“object” includes a past experience，the present occurrence，and the image of future. On the other hand，“the feeling by which it is accompanied” includes the various feeling of the springing self-actualization and will，life fullness，useful volition，and the feeling of presence，the feeling of the intended movement. If the simple measure which can measure “IKIGAI” in deployment of future research，and the standardized question are completed，the original research which explores medical treatment，health，welfare，and not only a gerontology but Japanese culture will be attained，and the difference by the place-of-residence region in and outside the country can also be considered. Moreover，since“IKIGAI” deals in the indicator of an individual way of life，it would be an interdisciplinary research subject. |
