内容記述 | This study examines the impact of brand addiction toward idols conceptualized as human brands, and compulsive buying on debt avoidance. Previous research has shown that compulsive buying negatively affects debt avoidance and self-esteem, while brand addiction exerts a positive influence. However, the specific mechanisms underlying these effects remain unclear, particularly concerning human brands such as idols and celebrities, which have been insufficiently explored. Using a survey research, this study analyzed data from Japanese youth focusing on two idol groups. The results indicated that compulsive buying enhances brand addiction and has a negative impact on debt avoidance. Conversely, in contrast to prior research which primarily highlighted direct effects, brand addiction demonstrated a positive influence on debt avoidance through the mediating effect of self-esteem. Such results may be associated with the specific traits of human brands, particularly idols, as well as the cultural context of Japanese youth. This study contributes to understanding brand addiction and its implications for financial behaviors, especially debt avoidance, thereby enriching the existing body of research. | |||||||
