内容記述 | This study examined the impact of self-restraint from leaving home and daycare center closures during the COVID-19 pandemic on households raising children, focusing on the places where children spent time, their caregivers, and their sense of burden. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey of households with preschool children attending daycare centers throughout Japan was conducted via an Internet research firm. A sample of 1,000 respondents participated in the study, of which 77.7% experienced daycare center closures or requests to refrain from attending day care centers. Regarding the place of care for children during the period when they were unable to attend daycare, the largest number of respondents were at home (approximately 85%), with grandparents’ homes serving as a complementary place of care. Mothers were the most common caregivers, and the number of cases in which mothers provided care at home was six times greater than the number of cases in which fathers provided care at home and grandparents provided care at their homes (ranking second). Of the questions regarding the burden of childcare under COVID-19, the highest response rates were on “lack of access to public facilities and parks” and “mental stress care for children due to being refrained from going out.” Mental stress care for children was highest in the Tokyo area. Women tended to have a greater sense of burden, especially with regard to mental stress and household tasks. However, regarding the positive aspects of self-restraint from leaving home during COVID-19, the Tokyo area tended to have higher response rates than the national values for having more time to spend with children, sharing household tasks with spouses/partners, and balancing work and household tasks. | |||||||
