Of them, those who are interested in a' town planning oriented to the natural environmental conservation have organized the local societies of nature protection. These societies are developing various activities such as observation and survey of nature and maintenance of parks and open spaces conserving natural vegetation. In order to grasp their members' view of nature, Hayashi's quantification model III-a kind of qualitative factor analysis - is applied to the response patterns to 13 expressions related with affairs and situations through which respondents perceive nature, which are asked in the questionnaires distributed to a total of 81 members. It turns out that their view of nature is composed of the three fundamental dimensions: 1) a contrast between the sense of sight and the other senses, 2) a contrast between passive or appreciation-type concern and active or contact-type concern, and 3) a contrast between preference for daily things and preference for non-daily things.
