This study aims to understand the role of guesthouses for community-based tourism from a viewpoint of exchange activities between tourists and local people. First of all, the facilities and programs to enhance exchange activities using information of their homepages categorized guesthouses in Japan. Secondary, we chose a guesthouse that offers occasion to enhance exchange activities between tourists and local peoples and conducted a questionnaire survey on attitude of the users and owners. Currently, there are few guesthouses that make a strong effort to enhance exchange activities between tourist and local people. From the case study, we found that tourist could have opportunities to go sightseeing with local people and have a time around the neighborhood of accommodation. On the other hand, local people could aware the value of the area as a tourism destination and improve their communication skill. Therefore, guesthouse could be an efficient and effective facility to make linkage between tourist and local community and nurture human resource for tourism in community and urban scale.},
